about

24 years later is a detailed look into an older and wiser aspiring musician and artist, known as Pugslee Atomz. This follow up album to Thanks for Not Rhyming (Galapagos 4) illuminates a more reflective Atomz and his obstacles to achieving his dreams. Pugslee decided to stray from the cliché of battling rhyming, and take his listeners to new places in time. As always, Mr. Atomz collaborates with a wide variety of producers, and never ceases to amaze his audience with charisma and style. The album features Prime & Psalm One with production from PNS (Molemen), Overflo, Yoda, WEXL and others…

Review:
A member of the Birthwrite Records crew, Pugslee Atomz is one of the most vivid MCs working in the underground. His tight, insightful rhymes unveil an album that looks back on his life with a warmth rarely felt in the genre. 24 Years Later manages to avoid the sappy nostalgia of many "back in the day" rap tracks by giving an honest assessment of his experiences. Tracks like "Red Tape" and "N.O.S.talgia" tell tales of youth that have a vivid intensity that stands in contrast to the sparse beats, often getting unusually personal for a hip-hop artist. Elsewhere, the up-tempo "7/31/89 (J. Atomz vs J. Brown)" may be the first song ever written about getting busted for tagging an alley with graffiti, while the Latin-flavored "If (Simple and Plain)" crafts an honest tale of a relationship developed at a Ghostface Killah concert. Pugslee Adams may not always be experimental or groundbreaking, but he still succeeds by just making really good traditional rap. By having such a personal take on his self-reflection, this stands out for being not only unique, but also intelligent. The rhymes are sharp, the beats are solid, and the album works wonderfully as a whole; 24 Years Later is another great disc in a year filled with awesome indie hip-hop.
